In circa 1630 this place is specified as the boundary marker of the parish of Abertarff: 'The marche betwix Abirtarf and Stra Arkek ar the hill of Suy-Cumman, twa myll from Glendo ... ' (Geog. Coll. ii, 556). According to the local minister in 1798, 'And an eminence on the hill to the east of Lochtarf is called Sui-Chuiman, or Cummins's resting-place' (OSA xx, 20).
