Notes
The name is the name of a hill G barr + pn Éibhinn, misunderstood as that of a saint. Watson suggests that the hill was named after Saint Éibhinn or Aoibhinn (OG Aibind 'delightful'), a disciple or follower of Brigit (1926, 271) Nearby are Kirkton of Barevan, Easter Barevan, Wester Barevan (Digimap). In about 1726 it was noted that 'the Church of Barrivan ... was the Parish church till about Anno 1619' (Geog. Coll. i, 227).
