Notes
Tradition states that it was the site of the parish kirk until it was moved to its present site in 1556 (Mr Imrie, the Manse, Rogart, 1966). The hillside above it is OS Digimap Ard a' Clachain, suggesting that this was the kirkton at an earlier date If it was, as appears, in a detached part of the parish of Dornoch until 1891, it is unlikely to have been the the former parish kirk of Rogart- unless, of course, its relationship with Dornoch was a post 1556 one, prior to which it had been in the parish of Rogart. On a haugh on the bank of the River Fleet, which here forms the southern boundary of detached part Dornoch. According to Geog. Coll. iii, 104 (1679 x 1703), 'One [Fair] is kept at Rogart called St Callen his Fair'.
Relationships with other parishes
Detached from Dornoch, parish (formerly)
It appears to have been among the lands now in Rogart which were in a detached part of Dornoch until 1891 (OS 6 inch 1st edn). See also Shennan 1892, 130-31.
