Cowan notes: 'This church, which was attached to the hospital of St Magnus, does not appear to have possessed parochial status, but apparently held certain teinds within the parish of Halkirk, in which it lay. These revenues accrued at the Reformation to the master of the hospital, which was founded before 1440' (1967, 186).
