Parish notes

Kirk Kindar (Antiquity) on an island in Loch Kindar is presumably the medieval parish kirk. Also known as Lochkindeloch [the headword in Cowan 1967, 135], and as Kinderloch, later as New Abbey, the church was granted to Sweetheart Abbey, on its foundation in 1273, by Devorgilla de Balliol, this being confirmed to the uses of the abbey by Robert bp. of Glasgow in 1277, with permission for one of the monks to serve the cure (Laing Chrs. no.46; GRH Vat. Trans. ii no.10). This latter provision was carried out, both parsonage and vicarage remaining with the abbey (CPL iv, 251; RMS viii no.572). Cowan 1967, 135. 1624 RMS viii no.572 To Robert Spottiswode of Newabay lands, churches etc. belonging to Newabay alias Sueithart including church of Newabay alias Lochkindeloch.
