Parish notes
Granted with its chapel of Orwell to Dunfermline Abbey by Robert I in 1314, the church was confirmed to the uses of the abbey by William bp. of St Andrews in that year. However, this did not become effective till 1317, both parsonage and vicarage revenues then passing to the abbey, while the cure became a vicarage pensionary. It so remained at the Reformation, still being conjoined with Orwell, which by then, however, appears to have attained parochial status (Dunf. Reg. nos. 341-3, 351, 572, 584; CPL iv, 184; Ass. 33; Morton Papers - Box 43, March 1561). Cowan 1967, 116.
