Notes
This parish used to embrace the whole island of Bute. In the thirteenth century a new parish, Rothesay (ROT) was carved out of it, containing the northern half of the island, while in the nineteenth century ROT was itself subdivided by the creation of North Bute (NBU). The NGR given is for the medieval church of Kingarth, which is also the site of the early medieval monastery.
