Notes

It is surmised that there was an ecclesiastical site here on the basis a) of the name, and b) on the discovery of a possible long cist here and traditions of a burial site. The NGR is the one given by Canmore for the location of the cist. Canmore ID39505. In the boundary of the field marked as Kilchoan on OS maps, there is a large stone with a basin carved in it (observed by Butter and Márkus 2003). The chambered cairn in the same field is Canmore ID 39452. Also note Port an Deora, Kilmartin, nearby - 'port of the dewar or hereditary relic-keeper', 1 km to the west.
